I've always been interested in learning. Of course I tended to be the most enthusiastic about those subjects that I was interested in. But it was only later that I realized that part of the enthusiasm came from the way those subjects were taught. And it makes sense: a teacher can't just tell the students what is being taught, he or she has to engage the students in the topic so that the enthusiasm grows and learning can happen. I have had the benefit of experiencing life on both sides of the Atlantic, living all over the United Kingdom and now on the east coast of the United States. The complimentary, but distinct cultures have helped me assess my identity in terms of both culture and awareness of others; how I fit in as someone who is seen 'different' every time I open my mouth. And it was only after deciding to stay in America that I decided to pursue a career that used art to communicate new ideas and possibilities to help encourage children's overall awareness and learning. As I see it the approach can be subtle, teaching math through art or science through model making, or it can be obvious: drawing what we see to heighten observational skills and coordination.
